YouTube Video Summarizer
Effective October 29, 2026
Developer: Dmitry Smirnov. Contact: nukodim@gmail.com.
The extension helps you read, summarize, translate, discuss and take notes on YouTube videos. Its current interface is in English. It does not download video or audio files or provide audio transcription.
For its video features, the extension reads the selected video's URL, identifier, title, description, available captions, chapter information, playback position and loaded comments. Playlist collection reads the playlist and the selected videos' available captions. The extension adds a summary button on YouTube. It does not collect a general record of unrelated browsing activity.
Settings, saved summaries, chat messages and drafts, notes, highlights, related video metadata and playlist progress are stored locally using Chrome extension storage. Exported files and clipboard contents are created when you request them. Your saved library is not backed up to our server.
When you request a summary or an answer, the extension sends the relevant video metadata and caption text, or an explicitly selected description-only source, to api.youtube-video-summarizer.com over HTTPS. Questions can include your question and recent conversation for context. Our server sends the source and question to OpenRouter and the model provider used for generation. The current model is DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 through OpenRouter. OpenRouter may route requests among providers that serve that model.
The source and generated response are processed to deliver your request. Our application does not maintain a server-side library of your transcripts, questions or answers, and does not intentionally log their content. Third-party processing and retention are governed by OpenRouter's privacy policy and the applicable model provider policies. Those providers may retain data under their own terms. Do not submit confidential material that you do not want those services to process.
When you select a translation language, relevant text may be sent to Google Translate at translate.googleapis.com, or translated captions may be requested from YouTube. Google processes those requests under its privacy policy.
Continue in AI opens the service you choose and inserts video text into its composer; the feature may send the prompt as part of that action. Supported destinations include ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Studio and Grok. These services have their own accounts, terms and privacy policies. No text is sent to all of them at once. Use this feature only when you want the chosen service to receive that text.
Our hosting infrastructure receives your IP address and request metadata. The beta quota database stores request counts and a keyed identifier derived from an IP address or IPv6 network prefix and the UTC date. It does not store raw IP addresses. Old date buckets are removed on subsequent requests after the UTC date changes; if there are no further requests, they can remain until the next request.
The public proxy's access log is disabled. Network connection logs can contain IP addresses, connection times and technical status; they rotate daily with seven archived logs. Operational error logs may include network addresses and technical error details and remain until host log rotation or maintenance removes them. Their exact lifetime can vary with system configuration and disk usage. They are used to operate and secure the service, not for advertising. Our hosting provider processes network traffic as part of providing infrastructure.
The extension does not send feature-usage analytics, session recordings or installation identifiers to analytics services. Google Analytics provided by Chrome Web Store measures the store listing and installations separately; it is not embedded in the extension or its Welcome page.
To keep the generation service working, detect failures and fix errors promptly, we record a random request identifier, request type, delivery stages, attempts, technical outcome codes, timing, source character and caption counts, model name, and token usage and cost when supplied by the provider. We do not record video titles, URLs, transcripts, questions, chats, generated answers, raw provider error bodies or API keys in these diagnostics. Operational request IDs identify requests, not people. Recent diagnostic events are stored in a private server database for up to seven days and removed during subsequent requests. Host service logs follow host log rotation.
These technical events are also sent from our server to PostHog in the United States for service monitoring. PostHog receives the server network address, rather than a forwarded end-user IP address. PostHog event retention on the current free plan is one year, subject to its terms. This operational monitoring applies only to requests reaching the generation server. It does not track feature clicks or general browser activity. See PostHog's privacy policy.
Feedback opens Gmail with a draft addressed to nukodim@gmail.com. You review and send it yourself. If you send email, your address and message are retained in the developer's mailbox for support; you can request deletion by email, subject to legal or security obligations.
You can delete saved chats, notes and summaries in the extension's settings. Clearing extension storage or uninstalling the extension removes its locally saved records. Export important material first. To withdraw consent, stop using the extension and clear its data or uninstall it. For data held by a third-party service, contact that service under its policy. We cannot restore deleted local records.
We use and transfer data only to provide the extension's disclosed features and related operations, security and support. We do not sell user data, use it for personalized advertising, or use it to determine creditworthiness. We do not permit human access to user content except with your consent for support, for security, when required by law, or as otherwise allowed by the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy. Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
We will update this page when processing practices change. Material changes requiring new consent will be disclosed in the extension before that processing begins.
